Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has officially launched its new compact electric vehicle, the Firefly. This model features a unique design and advanced technology, including a swappable battery system.
The Firefly is equipped with a 42.1 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a range of up to 420 kilometers (approximately 260 miles) on a single charge. It supports DC fast charging up to 100 kW and incorporates Nio’s battery swap technology, allowing for quick battery replacements at designated stations.
Priced between RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800 (approximately €15,110 to €15,900), the Firefly is positioned as an affordable yet premium option in the compact EV segment. It aims to compete with models like the Mini Cooper and Smart #1 in both Chinese and European markets.
The vehicle’s design includes a trio-headlamp setup, dynamic taillight ring, and fluorescent capsule-style accents. Additional features like a floating roof, flush door handles, and 18-inch alloy wheels contribute to its distinctive appearance.
Inside, the Firefly offers a 13.2-inch infotainment display, a 6-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14-speaker surround sound system. The interior is designed for comfort and convenience, featuring multiple storage compartments and a fragrance system.
Nio plans to introduce the Firefly to the European market in the first half of 2025, despite facing tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. The company is working with local partners to establish sales and service networks, aiming to expand its global presence in the electric vehicle industry.
