The Ape Electric (Apé Electrik) vehicles of the Italian Piaggio Group have entered the Philippines, according to Piaggio Vehicles, the Indian division of the company. The electric 3-wheelers will be produced at the Baramati, Maharashtra, facility of PVPL and shipped to the Philippines. The business will use Sun Mobility’s battery-swapping technology in its Ape E-City and Ape E-xtra vehicles.
The Ape Electric vehicles will be the first electric 3-wheelers in the Philippines with the intention of enhancing last-mile mobility and the nation’s small commercial vehicle industry. In the Philippines, Rusco Motors Inc.’s subsidiary Philippinerimex will sell electric 3-wheelers.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Diego Graffi stated, “In 2019, we introduced the first 3-wheeler EV to the market in India, and now, in 2023, we are happy to be the first movers in this segment in the Philippines. Entry into the Philippines is a first step for Piaggio Vehicles towards accelerating the adoption of EVs globally and towards a sustainable planet. We hope to make a significant contribution to their EV ambitions and see tremendous export potential in the market.
