On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 electric buses from PMI Electro Mobility, reaffirming India’s commitment to green and sustainable urban transport. The ceremony took place as part of broader efforts to promote clean mobility and reduce vehicular emissions in cities.
These electric buses are set to operate across multiple Indian cities, contributing to a cleaner, quieter, and more efficient public transport network. The move aligns with the government’s vision of transitioning to electric mobility to combat pollution and climate change.
PMI Electro Mobility, one of India’s leading electric bus manufacturers, has been instrumental in deploying e-buses under the FAME and other government-supported programs. With over 1,500 electric buses already running across 32 cities, the company continues to expand its eco-friendly fleet.
Speaking at the launch, PMI officials highlighted the buses’ advanced features including fast-charging capabilities, enhanced battery range, and passenger-friendly amenities. These innovations aim to make public transport both sustainable and comfortable for daily commuters.
The rollout of these 200 electric buses also aligns with India’s larger EV policy goals, including achieving net zero emissions by 2070 and electrifying a significant portion of public transportation by 2030. Each electric bus can reportedly reduce over 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ during its lifetime.
As the nation accelerates its transition toward clean energy, initiatives like this not only reduce environmental impact but also create green jobs and foster innovation in the EV ecosystem. The flag-off symbolizes a crucial step toward a cleaner, greener future for India’s urban mobility.
