Global Debut of Electric Kwid at Paris Event
Renault has officially unveiled the electric version of its popular hatchback the Kwid EV, also known as the Dacia Spring EV in global markets. The global debut took place during a recent showcase in Paris, where the brand presented its future-ready electrification plans with a focus on affordability and sustainability.
Affordable Urban EV for Emerging Markets
The Kwid EV is aimed at budget-conscious buyers seeking compact, city-friendly electric mobility. With a design inspired by the Renault Kwid’s styling, this EV is tailored to offer a cost-effective alternative to existing electric hatchbacks in the market. The model will cater especially to countries like India and Brazil, where affordable EVs are in high demand.
Indian Launch Confirmed for 2025
Renault has confirmed that the Kwid EV will be launched in India next year. The automaker is expected to bring the EV under the “Renault” badge instead of “Dacia” for the Indian market. This move aligns with Renault India’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup and tap into the growing EV market in the country.
Expected Range and Battery Specs
While exact India-specific specifications have not been revealed yet, the global Dacia Spring EV comes with a 26.8 kWh battery, offering a range of around 230–305 km on a single charge. It is expected that the India-spec version will retain similar battery options, possibly tuned for local conditions and usage patterns.
Focus on Localisation and Cost Efficiency
To ensure competitive pricing, Renault is likely to localise production of the Kwid EV in India. The company may leverage existing manufacturing facilities and partnerships to scale up EV output and reduce cost barriers for Indian consumers. This would place the Kwid EV among the most affordable electric vehicles in the country.
Strengthening Renault’s EV Push in India
With the upcoming launch, Renault aims to strengthen its position in the EV space and meet India’s tightening emission norms. The Kwid EV’s arrival will add to the growing list of budget EVs targeting urban commuters and could play a significant role in India’s transition towards electric mobility.
