Eicher Motors-owned Royal Enfield plans to launch two electric motorcycle models under the Flying Flea brand by the beginning of 2026.
Flying Flea’s first two motorcycles, the classic-styled FF-C6 and the scrambler-styled FF-S6, will be on the market by early 2026, the company says, with the C6 model expected to make its debut the following year.
“We have built a world-class team including 200+ engineers in India and the UK, and we have been deeply investing in R&D and infrastructure for EV over the last many years,” CEO B Govindarajan said as he introduced the vehicles in Milan.
Royal Enfield has already invested over Rs 1,500 crore in the electric vehicle sector and employed significant top management executives.
Chief Technology Officer Umesh Krishnappa has been in charge of the development project, and Mario Alvisi, a former Ducati rider, has been named Chief Growth Officer for Royal Enfield’s electric vehicle business.
An EV unit already exists that operates similarly to a start-up and is given the additional time and resources that higher management desires.
The first batch of electric cars will be made on a separate production line at Royal Enfield’s Orgadam facility, despite the fact that the company has already acquired more land for the Cheyyar electric car factory.
Eicher Motors has also acquired a roughly 10% stake in Stark Future, a Spanish producer of high-performance electric motorcycles, with plans to co-develop electric motorcycles.
It’s unclear which markets Royal Enfield plans to initially target with their electric motorcycles.
Even though two-wheelers are propelling India’s electrification, the market for electric motorcycles has not taken off, despite a few firms like Revolt and Ultraviolette producing a limited number of models.
