The SaveLIFE Foundation with assistance from BSES Rajdhani Power and in close collaboration with the Delhi Government and the Delhi Traffic Police has started a Tactical Urbanism Trial at the Sarita Vihar Intersection with the goal of saving lives and making Delhi roads safe for everyone.

Between 2017 and 2021, there were 50 crashes at the Sarita Vihar Intersection, 19 of which resulted in fatalities, according to the Delhi Traffic Police. The two years of 2017 and 2019 each saw five fatalities, making them the years with the highest number of fatalities ever reported at the Intersection. The two years 2019 and 2021 saw the most road crashes during this 5-year period, totaling 12 such incidents.

Tactical urbanism (TU) trials are short-term, quick, and relatively inexpensive interventions that test out changes to urban planning, transportation, and infrastructure with the goal of enhancing road safety for all users, particularly the most vulnerable, such as pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized transport users.

Temporary urban design interventions are tested by the SaveLIFE Foundation as part of the Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) initiative. Road space redistribution to ensure modal equity, road geometry modification, traffic channelization, vehicle speed reduction, and the addition of pedestrian and cyclist safety infrastructure are all crucial parts of these trials.

The Sarita Vihar Intersection is a tri-junction located on Mathura Road in Delhi, connecting Delhi to Noida and Faridabad. The Intersection is connected to Jasola Apollo in the west, Badarpur in the east and Madanpur Khadar Village towards the north. It is well-connected by public transport including metro connectivity through the Sarita Vihar Metro Station. The Rama Krishna Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, a government school, is located in close proximity to the Intersection.
