Skoda Auto has produced its one-millionth battery system at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav. The carmaker has been manufacturing high voltage traction batteries since 2019 when it started making them for the Superb iV with a plug-in hybrid engine.

Currently, the company’s only focus is on using the MEB platform to manufacture larger batteries for fully electric vehicles; two assembly lines generate 1,500 units each day. These batteries, which have capacities ranging from 55 to 91 kWh (net capacity 52 to 86 kWh), are found in the Skoda Enyaq and Elroq as well as other Volkswagen Group cars like Volkswagen, SEAT/CUPRA, and Audi.

Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, stated, “The dedication of our team and the close collaboration among the various brands is a testament to the milestone of one million battery systems manufactured by Skoda Auto for Volkswagen Group cars.” This achievement also highlights our commitment to eco-friendly transportation and our part in accelerating the industry’s transition to a more sustainable future. We are steadfastly taking the following steps at this time: A second battery system plant is already being built in Mladá Boleslav.

Skoda Auto has been producing high-voltage battery systems since the September 2019 introduction of the traction battery assembly for the plug-in hybrid Superb iV car. In May 2022, the Mladá Boleslav plant started manufacturing battery systems for all-electric cars based on the MEB technology. These technologies can be found in the Enyaq and the new SUV Elroq, as well as Volkswagen, Audi, and SEAT/CUPRA automobiles.
