Skoda is preparing to enter India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its first EV by September 2025. While the automaker has confirmed its plans, there is anticipation regarding which model will debut in India. The Enyaq iV, which has already been successful in international markets, is widely expected to be the chosen vehicle, though the final decision hinges on government policy changes expected by March 2025.
Originally slated for a 2024 launch, Skoda delayed the rollout of its EV lineup due to internal reasons. Petr Janeba, the company’s brand director, confirmed that the EV would be ready by September 2025, signaling the company’s commitment to electrifying its portfolio in India. This marks a significant step in Skoda’s global push for cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
Reports suggest that the Enyaq iV and its Coupe variant will be built on the MEB platform, the same platform used for Skoda’s Elroq EV. However, the final choice between the Enyaq and other potential models will depend on the Indian government’s finalized policy on electric vehicles, which is expected by March. This policy could impact the company’s decision to launch the vehicle as initially planned.
The Enyaq iV that is likely to be launched in India will come in the Enyaq iV 80x model, which features two motors providing all-wheel drive. The vehicle will be equipped with a 77 kWh battery and a DC fast-charging option offering up to 513 kilometers of range (WLTP). The Enyaq iV 80x is expected to produce 261 horsepower, positioning it as a premium electric offering in the Indian market.
Skoda’s commitment to launching an electric vehicle in India underscores the increasing demand for clean mobility solutions in the country. As the market evolves, Skoda’s move is likely to inspire other global automakers to bring their EV offerings to India, further accelerating the country’s transition to electric mobility.
