The Fiat 500 electric vehicle that is produced at Fiat’s famous Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, has been confronting a big concern of low order intake. Evn if European car producers are fighting, Stellantis confessed that issues involving the lack of orders ‘owing to the critical issues in the European electric car market’ assisted to the step.
Unions have been urging Stellantis to bring new, low-cost, high-volume models to the Mirafiori complex in order to revive it. With an emphasis on sustainable mobility, Stellantis went into further detail about Mirafiori’s future vision as one of the company’s most significant hubs for innovation and development.
The suspension occurs concurrently with the introduction of a USD 1 billion initiative by the Italian government to promote low-emission vehicles through other policies in the first half of this year. Included in this idea are subsidies for completely electric vehicles. However, Stellantis and the Italian government have rather different views on the usefulness and implementation of these incentives.
According to Stellantis, the company is ‘working hard to manage at its best this hard phase of transition,’ which reflects its attempts to adjust to the changing regulatory environment and market realities.
