The Bengaluru-based SUN Mobility intends to introduce different use cases of the product on similar lines, across fragments. Prior to this, SUN Mobility launched its modular battery-switching technology for Heavy Electric Vehicles (HEVs) at Prawaas 4.0.
They consist of fixed trucks, trailers, mining vehicles, port vehicles, city buses, intercity buses, and other types of vehicles such as light commercial vehicles (LCVs), medium commercial vehicles (MCVs), heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs).
Ashok Agarwal, CEO- HEV, SUN Mobility said, “Our main goal for the next 18 to 24 months will be to implement these many use cases and demonstrate our robot’s adaptability to tackle a broad range of applications and a large addressable market. We intend to switch to leasing models after the technology’s efficacy has been established.”
Agarwal underlined that improving air quality, cutting emissions, and raising the general efficiency of the transportation sector all depend on a greater electrification of commercial fleets, especially heavy vehicles. For buses and light, medium, and heavy trucks with gross vehicle weights (GVW) ranging from three to fifty-five tons, SUN Mobility’s Smart BatteryTM solution is suitable.
Furthermore, since the switching process takes less than three minutes, it boosts bus usage and availability while conserving fleet managers up to 20% on running costs. Greater payload carrying capacities are guaranteed by the battery’s light weight and compact design, claims Agarwal.
SUN Mobility claims to have onboarded more than 26,000 vehicles in the fleet categories of two, three, and small four-wheelers since its founding in 2017. The company runs more than 630 battery swapping locations around the country, recording 1.6 million kilometers and 60,000 battery swaps every day—a striking 84% rise in usage over the prior year.
Additionally, through its most recent strategic joint venture, SUN Mobility hopes to benefit from IndianOil’s nationwide network of over 37,000 gas stations. They intend to make it as accessible as conventional gas stations by merging this network with battery-swapping technology from SUN Mobility.
