Suzuki Motor Corporation and its subsidiary, Suzuki Business Co. Ltd., have reached an agreement to provide Hamamatsu Energy Co. Ltd. with the environmentally beneficial electricity generated by their solar power facilities in Hamamatsu City. Using a feed-in tariff (FIT) system, Suzuki and Suzuki Business operate three separate facilities where the power is generated.
Hamamatsu Energy, a municipal energy provider with Hamamatsu City as its primary stakeholder, promotes the production and use of renewable energy locally. It supplies renewable energy to a range of public facilities, including primary and junior high schools, in addition to the city’s major offices and enterprises. Through this agreement, Hamamatsu City will be able to increase local energy self-sufficiency and achieve its objective of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
Suzuki and Suzuki Business’s choice to share their solar power output supports this objective and aids in the city’s shift to sustainable energy practices. This initiative follows Suzuki’s launch of “Shizuoka Green Denki” in July 2023, which showcased CO2-free electricity produced in Shizuoka Prefecture using renewable energy sources.
Suzuki’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy and collaborate with local communities are further proof of its commitment to fostering a sustainable global community. By supporting Hamamatsu City’s energy goals, Suzuki intends to play a significant role in the region’s shift to a cleaner, more self-sufficient energy future.
