Suzuki Motor Corp., which unveiled the e Vitara, its first electric car that is ready for production, will start producing the car at Maruti Suzuki India’s Gujarat facility in March or April. Sales of e Vitara are expected to begin in Europe, India, and Japan in the summer of 2025.
“This is a really important milestone in our journey to become carbon neutral.” Toshihiro Suzuki, President and Representative Director of Suzuki Motor, announced that production of the e Vitara will begin in India in the spring of 2025 at Suzuki Motor Gujarat during the launch of the automaker’s first electric vehicle in Milan, Italy.
The e VITARA is a mid-size SUV based on the concept car “eVX,” which made its premiere at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and the Japan Mobility Show in October of last year.
Europe, India, and Japan are Suzuki Motor’s main business regions, as stated in its growth target for the fiscal year 2030.
In the previous fiscal year, India accounted for 57% of global sales and over 61% of total output, making it the largest market for Japan’s fifth-largest automaker.
Maruti Suzuki recently acquired the Gujarat plant from Suzuki Motor Corp., its parent company. The plant can build 750,000 cars a year on three production lines. Maruti Suzuki plans to almost double its production capacity to 4 million cars by the end of this decade.
The Indian subsidiary currently has three plants that can build 2.35 million automobiles a year: two in Haryana (Gurugram and Manesar) and one in Gujarat. Additionally, the automaker is setting up two greenfield facilities in Gujarat and Haryana.
