SWTCH Energy and Kite Mobility have announced the launch of a $1.5 million EV charging infrastructure project in Ontario. This initiative focuses on enabling reliable and efficient EV charging for multi-tenant buildings, aiming to meet the growing demand from residents across the province.
The project, funded in part by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), will deploy advanced EV charging solutions at over 100 multi-unit residential buildings. SWtch, known for its smart EV charging technology, will collaborate with Kite Mobility, which brings a shared mobility platform to the table. The initiative underscores a shift towards sustainable, community-based transportation models.
SWtch will integrate its smart charging software with Kite Mobility’s electric carshare systems. This partnership is designed to make EV adoption more feasible in buildings that traditionally lack the infrastructure for personal chargers. Residents will be able to access on-demand EVs and chargers without the need for costly personal installations or service upgrades.
Officials say this collaboration not only reduces the carbon footprint but also provides equitable EV access to renters, a demographic often left out of the EV transition due to infrastructure gaps. “We’re making EV adoption inclusive,” said Carter Li, CEO of SWtch Energy. “This project shows how technology and mobility services can work together to drive environmental progress.”
By focusing on urban buildings—especially older ones—this project addresses a critical bottleneck in Canada’s EV readiness. It also aligns with Ontario’s broader climate goals and federal efforts to expand zero-emission infrastructure across the country.
With installations already underway and completion expected by mid-2026, the initiative could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges. SWtch and Kite Mobility’s pilot represents a forward-thinking blend of energy tech and shared mobility—paving the way for cleaner, smarter cities.
