Tata Group companies, including Tata AutoComp, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Technologies, and Tata Electronics, have quietly established themselves as essential suppliers to Tesla, contributing significantly to the electric vehicle manufacturer’s global supply chain.
In the fiscal year 2024, these Tata firms supplied components and services valued at approximately $2 billion to Tesla. This collaboration includes providing specialized EV engineering products, product lifecycle management services, circuit-board technologies, and semiconductor chips.
Tesla’s engagement with Tata Electronics is particularly noteworthy, with plans for Tata to manufacture critical components such as printed circuit board assemblies for Tesla’s battery management systems, motor controller units, and door controls. This partnership is expected to enhance Tesla’s localization efforts in India.
Beyond component supply, Tata Group’s involvement positions it as a potential partner for Tesla’s manufacturing ambitions in India. Tesla has been in discussions with various Indian states regarding setting up production facilities, with Tata’s extensive supply chain network making it a key player in these plans.
This collaboration underscores Tata Group’s growing influence in the global electric vehicle sector and highlights India’s emerging role as a critical hub for EV manufacturing and supply chain development.
