Tata Motors leads EV sales in India with 100% YoY growth in March

In comparison to the same month last year, Tata Motors sold roughly 7,000 electric vehicles in March, with MG Motor coming in second. In the market for electric two-wheelers, TVS Motor Company comes in second place to Ola Electric.

According to information from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, Tata Motors sold 7,137 electric vehicles during the month, an increase of 107% year over year (y-o-y) from the 3,444 units sold in March 2022. (FADA). According to Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, “looking ahead, we expect demand for personal vehicles to remain robust, with the electrification trend strengthening as more options are made available to customers, as well as support from a rapidly growing and improving ecosystem.”

In comparison to the 95 units it sold in the same month last year, MG Motor India sold 494 electric vehicles in March, a 420 percent increase year over year. Mahindra & Mahindra rose to fourth place with 237 sales of its electric vehicles, compared to just 18 sales in the same month previous year.
In comparison to the same month last year, the retail sales of electric PVs grew to 8,566 units in March from 3,718 units. It has increased by 130% year over year.

2-W Segment 

In the two-wheeler market, Ola Electric sold 21,274 e-Scooters, a 132% increase from the 9,145 units sold in March 2022. Retail sales of the iQube electric scooter from TVS Motor Company increased from 2,392 units in March 2022 to 16,768 units in March 2022, a sevenfold increase.

However, Hero Electric’s retail sales in March decreased 49% from the same month last year to 6,652 units, from 13,029 units. Similar declines were seen at Okinawa Autotech, which went from 8,285 units in March 2022 to 4,507 units, a decrease of approximately 46% year over year.
