Tata Power, which already operates 50 EV charging stations in the region, has plans to increase the number of EV chargers in Goa by at least 100 in the upcoming year. Additionally, it aims to put up charging stations on all of the interstates that lead to Goa in order to promote the use of electric cars.
In order to assist with the push towards green energy, the company is collaborating with the state government.
The company is working with the state government to help it with the thrust on green energy.
Speaking to TOI, chief executive officer and managing director of Tata Power, Praveer Sinha, said that the firm sees Goa as a strong market for EV and green energy adoption. “We already have 50 EV chargers operational, and nine more will become operational possibly this month,” said Sinha. “Apart from that, we have plans to add at least 100 more in Goa in the coming year, and we will also have chargers on the highways from here to Mumbai, Pune, and Karwar.”
The Goa Electric Vehicle (EV) Concessional Charging Infrastructure Policy was introduced by the state government in December 2021 with the goal of installing charging stations at 50 initial locations. The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) was given the responsibility by the state to grant authorizations for the installation of charging stations on both public and private property.
When asked about the potential locations for the EV charging stations, Sinha responded that they could be installed at gas stations, railroad stations, malls, office buildings, hotels, and any other significant parking lots with plenty of available parking.
The main objective, according to him, was to install EV charging stations along every highway leading to Goa.
After Goa and the Centre introduced incentives, the adoption of electric vehicles increased in the state.
Tata Power has finished a “desktop projection” that details how Goa can work towards its renewable energy goals. Sinha described them as rough projections that should be discussed with GEDA and the state’s electricity department.
For 40 EV charging stations in Goa, the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (GEDA) invited bids in December (FAME II).
