A media source claims that as part of its plan to strengthen its position in Maharashtra, Toyota plans to open a new facility for the production of electric vehicles. According to reports, the automaker used Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), its local joint venture, to secure 335 hectares of land for the project.
It is projected that the plant, which is expected to begin operations in January 2026, will produce 400,000 electric and hybrid vehicles annually. In addition to the 8,000 direct jobs anticipated, this massive project is predicted to create 18,000 indirect jobs. Toyota has made a firm commitment to the growing electric vehicle (EV) market in India with this project, which is expected to cost €2.17 billion.
In relation to investments, Toyota intends to provide Joby Aviation—a company that creates electric air taxis for use in commercial passenger transportation—with an additional $500 million. With the help of this funding, Joby will be able to achieve its mutual objective of providing air travel and start mass-producing its electric air taxi in addition to receiving certification.
