Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced that ‘personal information of some of TKM’s customers’ had been leaked online. The company added that it has yet to confirm the scope of the intrusion, but that the competent authority, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has been notified.
The attack comes just days after the Indian Railways was hit by a cyberattack in which personal information of over 30 million customers was allegedly sold on the dark web.

The company acknowledging about the data breach informed on Sunday that it is working with service providers to enhance the existing extensive guidelines.

“Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been notified by one of its service providers of an incident that might have exposed personal information of some of TKM’s customers on the internet. Considering this incident, TKM will work with its service provider to further enhance the existing extensive guidelines being followed and is fully committed to avoid any kind of inconvenience to our esteemed customers. We sincerely apologise for any concern this may have caused to our customers,” TKM said in a recent press note.

To Toyota’s dismay, this is not the brand’s first cyberattack; in early 2022, it was forced to shut down domestic production in Japan due to a cyberattack on a major supplier.
Meanwhile, the company has announced that 2022 will be the best year for TKM in terms of wholesales in the last ten years in India. The company managed to retail a total of 160,357 units in calendar year 2022, which is more than the 130,768 units retailed in CY 2021, resulting in a 23% increase in CY 2022.
