Toyota Motor Corporation has entered into a partnership with the Shanghai municipal government aimed at advancing carbon neutrality in China. This agreement includes the establishment of a new, wholly-owned facility in the Jinshan District of Shanghai to produce battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and batteries.
This move aligns with China’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, with Toyota focusing on innovations in hydrogen energy, automated driving, and battery recycling. The new facility will lead the development of a Lexus-brand BEV, expected to start production by 2027, with an annual output of approximately 100,000 units. The project will also create around 1,000 new jobs.
With this initiative, Toyota continues its long-standing collaborations with major Chinese automotive firms like China FAW Group and Guangzhou Automobile Group, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the global automotive industry.
