In a strategic collaboration, Turno and ThunderPlus have joined forces to install 1 megawatt (MW) ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along key Indian highways. The project will begin with the route connecting Hyderabad to Vizag, aiming to address range anxiety and accelerate the adoption of electric heavy commercial vehicles and buses.
This initiative is part of ThunderPlus’s “One District, One Thunder” campaign, which aims to establish a robust network of powerful charging stations across India. The focus will be on areas near state and national highways, ensuring that EV drivers have easy access to fast charging infrastructure.
Sudhindra Reddy, founder of Electrigo—Turno’s wholly-owned subsidiary—shared that the partnership’s goal is to replace 10 crore bus kilometers of diesel consumption with electric alternatives by 2026. This move is seen as a crucial step toward achieving a cleaner, more sustainable future for the country’s transportation sector.
Currently, operational charging stations in cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, and Rajahmundry demonstrate the effectiveness of this collaboration. Plans are in place to extend this network to other major routes, contributing to a broader EV adoption strategy in the country.
The 1MW charging technology marks a significant upgrade over traditional chargers, drastically reducing commercial vehicle charging times from several hours to just minutes. This development supports India’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels for transportation.
