Uttar Pradesh government has announced a ₹700 crore EV manufacturing hub in Kanpur, aiming to transform the region into a major electric vehicle production center. The initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to position itself as a national leader in sustainable mobility.

The new hub will be developed under the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, which incentivizes EV companies through subsidies, tax benefits, and infrastructure support. The facility is expected to house multiple EV component makers and vehicle manufacturers.

According to state officials, the Kanpur EV hub is set to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a major boost to local economic development. It will also support startups and MSMEs through dedicated zones and incubation centers within the industrial park.

The EV manufacturing zone will span across 30 acres and is strategically located to ensure easy logistics access via road and rail networks. The park will also integrate green energy sources to power operations and adopt sustainable practices in line with India’s net-zero targets.

Uttar Pradesh has already emerged as one of India’s top EV markets, with increasing adoption of electric two- and three-wheelers. The new Kanpur facility is expected to meet regional demand while supplying parts and vehicles to other parts of North India.

With this initiative, the state government aims to attract both domestic and international EV manufacturers. Officials highlighted that this development will not only promote clean transport but also make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing hub under India’s “Make in India” and “Green Mobility” missions.
