VinFast and the Durango Drivers’ Union in Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the green transition of public transportation. This includes the potential purchase of 3,000 VF 5 electric cars and 300 electric buses by the Durango Drivers’ Union for use in Mexico. This strategic partnership demonstrates VinFast’s ability to meet the shifting needs of diverse markets and the rising demand for these vehicles globally.
The parties will discuss the sale of VF 5 electric vehicles and electric buses to the Union of Drivers and Related Workers of Durango, a member of the Confederation of Mexico Workers (CTM), in order to replace the city of Durango’s current fleet of gasoline-powered public transit vehicles.
VinFast and its affiliate, V-Green, and CTM will also collaborate to study, establish, install, and/or operate electric vehicle and electric bus charging infrastructure in Durango to build a convenient and extensive charging network that can meet the demands of both private and public transportation vehicles.
The partnership will promote the expansion of the EV ecosystem and the greening of transportation in Durango City and throughout Mexico. Switching to electric vehicles from the gasoline fleet will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, save the Durango Drivers’ Union money on operating costs, and create jobs via the construction and upkeep of the charging station.
“We are impressed by the State of Durango and CTM’s strong commitment to a green transition,” said Ms. Pham Thuy Linh, Deputy CEO of VinFast. VinFast’s basic values are ideally aligned with this shared vision for a sustainable future. We are certain that, with the help of our top-notch electric cars and our affiliates’ proficiency in cab operations and charging infrastructure, we can help the State of Durango achieve their goals and leave a lasting impression on both the state and the larger Mexican landscape.
