Once again, it’s that time of the year when Volkswagen India hosts its annual press conference. This time around, the carmaker has unveiled numerous exciting developments for India, including the introduction of new variants and the confirmation of its first-ever electric vehicle for the Indian market, the ID.4 electric SUV.
The new variants unveiled include an updated lineup for the Taigun and Virtus GT trims, now available in Chrome, Sport, and Edge editions. Leading the lineup are the GT Plus Sport variants, exclusively equipped with the 1.5 TSI turbo-petrol engine. Notably, the GT Plus Sport features a distinctive absence of chrome, replaced by red badging throughout and a fully black cabin adorned with red accents.
Moving on, we have the Sport GT Line variant tailored for the Taigun 1.0 TSI turbo-petrol engine. This variant mirrors the features of the Highline model while shedding the chrome inserts. In their place, you’ll find distinctive “GT Line” branding and sleek blacked-out wheels.
Shifting focus to the Volkswagen ID.4, the automaker’s inaugural electric SUV. Although specific details regarding the India-spec model are yet to be disclosed, the international model comes in several configurations: Match (featuring a 170-hp motor and a 52-kWh battery pack), Match Pro (equipped with a 286-hp motor and a 77-kWh battery pack), and Match Pro 4MOTION (sporting a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 286 hp and a 77-kWh battery pack).
Although the prices for the new variants of the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun have not been released, given their showcase, they may be announced soon. Regarding the ID.4 electric SUV, anticipate its launch around the second half of 2024.
