The Volkswagen Group made a powerful impression at the Auto Shanghai 2025 by unveiling five new intelligent electric vehicles (EVs) and a next-generation AI-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The showcase underlined the company’s “In China, for China” strategy, reinforcing its focus on the world’s largest EV market.
Three concept models — the ID. ERA, ID. EVO, and ID. AURA — made their debut under the Volkswagen brand. These vehicles, fully developed in China, cater specifically to the fast-evolving digital lifestyles of Chinese consumers, highlighting Volkswagen’s commitment to local innovation.
Audi also captured attention with the global premiere of the Audi A6L e-tron, a model built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). Alongside it, Audi introduced the AUDI E5 Sportback, marking the first production model from its new sub-brand designed to compete aggressively in China’s luxury EV segment.
Adding to the innovation, Volkswagen introduced a new AI-powered ADAS developed by CARIZON, a CARIAD joint venture. This system, promising a more natural and safer driving experience, represents a major technological leap in automated driving assistance for the Chinese market.
The AI-ADAS will be rolled out in select vehicles later this year, offering Level 2++ automation, and is expected to be widely available in Volkswagen’s compact-class models by 2026. It will enable seamless driving on highways and urban roads alike, aiming to set a new standard in the industry.
The announcements at Auto Shanghai 2025 mark a significant step for Volkswagen Group as it deepens its commitment to China’s EV sector, blending cutting-edge technology, local production, and AI innovation to strengthen its market leadership.
