The new Volkswagen Tayron has achieved a five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP assessments, underscoring the vehicle’s advanced safety features and Volkswagen’s commitment to the “Safety for All” initiative. This initiative aims to enhance protection across all vehicle classes, road users, and accident scenarios.

Comprehensive Safety Evaluations

Euro NCAP evaluated the Tayron across four key areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, protection for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, and safety assist technologies. The Tayron’s five-star rating reflects its excellent overall performance and the effectiveness of its comprehensive suite of standard safety and driver assistance systems.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Even the base version of the Tayron includes an extensive range of advanced assist features, such as:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring

  • Lane Assist (lane keeping system)

  • Dynamic Road Sign Display

  • Predictive speed limiter

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop & go functionality

  • Side Assist (lane change assist)

  • Braking support for oncoming vehicles when turning and swerve assistance

  • Driver Attention Monitor and Driver Alert System

  • Automatic Post-Collision Braking System

  • Front Cross Traffic Assist

  • Exit Warning System

Performance in Crash Tests

In the frontal offset test, the Tayron’s passenger compartment remained stable, providing good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and front passenger. The side barrier test showed good protection for all critical body areas, while the more severe side pole impact test rated chest protection as marginal. The Tayron’s airbag system performed well, and tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries.

Child and Pedestrian Safety

For child occupant protection, the Tayron scored 85%, with good protection for both 6 and 10-year-old dummies in frontal and side impact tests. The vehicle is equipped with ISOFIX child seat anchor points, ensuring secure installation of car seats. In terms of pedestrian safety, the Tayron’s autonomous emergency braking system responds to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, performing adequately in tests.

Availability and Market Positioning

The Tayron is positioned between the compact Tiguan and the larger Touareg in Volkswagen’s SUV lineup. It offers a variable interior and is optionally available with a third row of seats, accommodating up to seven passengers. The model is available to order now and is expected to enter the Indian market soon.
