Volvo Buses has created a comprehensive solution to accelerate the electrification of intercity and municipal transportation in Europe. The focal point of the unveiling is the Volvo 8900 Electric, a low-entry bus designed to electrify commuter transportation while handling a range of weather situations. This marks a significant expansion of Volvo’s product line with the introduction of the updated Volvo 7900 Electric and Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses, which now come with state-of-the-art safety measures and a redesigned driver environment.

Starting in 2025, Volvo and MCV (Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles) will work together to build Volvo’s electric buses, ensuring higher production flexibility and greater quality standards. Through this agreement, we can focus on developing state-of-the-art drivelines and chassis while offering a more extensive, bespoke product line. “MCV will utilize the same technical body solutions that our clients rely on,” Nylund added.

Furthermore, Volvo Buses strengthened its commitment to the coach sector by leveraging its global reach and partnerships with body manufacturers like Carrus Delta of Finland. This method provides a variety of single- and double-decker choices for tourist and intercity transit.

The new Volvo 8900 Electric is built on the Volvo BZR platform, which will support future electric coach designs. “An electric coach that blends sustainability and passenger comfort for shorter trips and intercity travel will be our next step,” Nylund revealed.

Volvo Buses’ expanded lineup and strategic alliances further establish the company as a leader in sustainable transportation by offering cities and regions throughout Europe flexible and innovative solutions for a greener future.
