Volvo Buses has secured a significant order from Svealandstrafiken, a leading public transportation operator in Sweden. The order, valued at 106 electric buses, represents a strong step towards sustainable transportation in the Västmanland and Örebro regions. This new deal is part of Volvo’s ongoing efforts to expand its electric vehicle footprint in the public transport sector.

The initial order includes 60 Volvo 8900 Electric intercity buses, marking the debut of this new model. Additionally, Svealandstrafiken has ordered 13 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses for urban routes. The contract also includes an additional 33 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses, further demonstrating the operator’s confidence in Volvo’s electric mobility solutions.

The Volvo 8900 Electric buses will be deployed on intercity routes, connecting cities across Västmanland and Örebro. These buses are expected to begin operations in early 2027. Meanwhile, the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses will service urban areas of Örebro, with deliveries planned for 2026.

Martin Spjern, Volvo Buses’ Market Manager in Sweden, highlighted the significance of the order. He noted that the new electric buses would not only offer quiet and efficient transportation within cities but also improve connectivity between urban centers, aligning with Svealandstrafiken’s commitment to sustainability.

Svealandstrafiken’s decision to go with Volvo reflects the company’s broader approach to enhancing both social and environmental sustainability through its transport services. The electric buses are designed to help reduce emissions and improve air quality, supporting Sweden’s goals for a greener future.

The new buses are also equipped with cutting-edge technologies aimed at enhancing both performance and passenger experience. Volvo’s electric buses are known for their energy efficiency, making them an ideal choice for environmentally conscious public transport operators.

This major order further strengthens Volvo’s position as a leader in the global electric bus market. As the demand for clean and sustainable public transport continues to rise, Volvo’s ability to provide high-quality, efficient electric buses positions it as a key player in the transition to a zero-emission future.

The order is also expected to play a significant role in advancing Sweden’s push towards achieving its environmental goals, making public transportation greener and more sustainable.
