White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), the originator of the British electric motorcycle land-speed world record program, has unveiled the world’s first fully electric, rapid-charging motorcycle, designed specifically to meet the needs of first responders and fleets worldwide.
Due to a unique battery architecture developed by MAHLE Powertrain, the WMC300E+, which has a range of 100 miles or 160 kilometers, can be fully charged in less than 15 minutes using a standard CCS charger.
“It is a tremendous technical and business challenge for the industry as a whole to create an electric motorcycle that performs comparably to a petrol motorcycle,” said Robert White, Founder & CEO, White Motorcycle Concepts.
Its remarkable aerodynamic performance and creative battery design are two of its unique features. The first makes use of WMC’s unique V-Duct, a venturi duct that runs down the center of the bike and dramatically lowers aerodynamic drag, improving performance, stabilizing the bike, and consuming less energy. The company’s land-speed record campaign helped perfect the concept behind this central air duct, resulting in an enhanced dual-channel design that increases aerodynamic efficiency by 25% in the WMC300E+.
Designed and manufactured by specialist engineering provider MAHLE Powertrain, the bike’s unique battery idea contributes to its high operational availability and rapid charging. The switch to an electric motor allows for more flexibility in packing for motorcycles, and it is this idea that influenced the design of the battery.
The battery cell has a cutting-edge Lithium Cobalt Oxide with Nickel Manganese Aluminum chemistry that allows it to hold high charge rates while also showing remarkable age resistance for an extended period of time.
