ABB has declared its intention to provide Volvo with over 1,300 functional packages and robots.

The agreement has been finalized to supply a range of manufacturing duties, including flow drilling, ultrasonic welding inspection, and spot, rivet, and dispensing welding. These products will be operational and available for usage at the Volvo Cars plants located in Daqing, China, and Torslanda, Sweden. The most recent OmniCore robot controllers from ABB can help save up to 20% on electricity.

“Global manufacturers are facing both new opportunities and challenges as a result of the automotive industry’s historic transformation, which is being driven by consumer demand for electric vehicles and a desire to operate more sustainably,” stated Marc Segura, president of ABB Robotics. “This most recent pledge from our partner Volvo Cars exemplifies our common goal.”

ABB has used its RobotStudio planning and programming software platform to guarantee that there will be no production interruptions. Together, Volvo Cars and ABB will design and validate the necessary automation systems in a virtual environment, enabling solutions that can be engineered once but deployed several times.

ABB and Volvo Cars have been working together for a long time to develop industrial robot capabilities and increase the efficiency of car manufacture. Their relationship is planned to be extended for a number of years, with the first deployments anticipated in early 2024.
