Ipower Batteries disclosed it has recently passed the AIS 156 (Amendment III) Phase 2 requirement and obtained ICAT certification for its NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery chemistries for two-wheeler and three-wheeler EVs.

NMC batteries range from 1.5 to 4 kWh for two-wheelers, while LFP batteries range from 2 to 4 kWh for two-wheelers and 5KWh to 10KWh for three-wheelers and electric car. For two-wheelers, the new compliant NMC batteries have finished over 40,000 kilometres of on-road testing validation, while LFP batteries have completed 60,000 kilometres for two-wheelers and 60,000 kilometres for three-wheelers.

“This was a major milestone we achieved well in time, complying with the new norms, and ensuring a safe EV ecosystem in the country,” said Vikas Aggarwal, Founder & MD, Ipower Batteries. We are among the first to have received ICAT approval for our NMC and LFP battery chemistry. Our batteries have fulfilled the necessary design, construction, and testing parameters, ensuring the customer’s safety.”

In September 2022, the Government of India amended the EV battery testing guidelines and phased in Amendment 3 of AIS-156, with Phase 1 taking effect on December 1, 2022, and Phase 2 taking effect on March 31, 2023.
