Honda Launches First Electric Motorcycle, E-VO, in China

Honda has unveiled its first electric motorcycle, the E-VO, in China through its joint venture with Guangzhou Motors Group Company under the Wuyang-Honda brand. The E-VO is available in two variants: a 4.1 kWh dual-battery model priced at CNY 29,999 (approximately ₹3.56 lakh), and a 6.2 kWh triple-battery model priced at CNY 36,999 (around ₹4.39 lakh).

The 4.1 kWh variant offers a range of 120 km, while the 6.2 kWh variant extends up to 170 km, both as per WMTC standards. The motorcycles are powered by a 15.8 kW (21.5 PS) mid-mounted motor paired with a Continental belt drive, achieving a top speed of 120 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 50 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

Charging times are efficient, with the base model reaching 80% charge in 1.5 hours using a home charger, and just 1 hour with a public AC car charger. The top variant requires 2.5 hours with a home charger and 1.5 hours with a public charger. The lithium battery packs are designed to retain over 85% capacity even after 1,500 full charge-discharge cycles.

The E-VO features a retro café racer design with modern elements, including a forged all-aluminium chassis, 16-inch front and 14-inch rear alloy wheels with semi-slick tyres, and a seat height of 765 mm. Both variants come equipped with dual-channel ABS, inverted front forks, and a 5-step adjustable brake lever.

Technological highlights include dual 7-inch TFT displays for navigation, music, tyre pressure monitoring, and battery status. The base variant includes a front dashcam, while the top variant adds a rear dashcam. Riders can choose from three riding modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, to customize their riding experience.

Currently, the Honda E-VO is exclusive to the Chinese market, with no announcements regarding its availability in other countries. Honda’s focus remains on catering to the growing demand for electric mobility solutions within China.
