Maharashtra Records 130% Increase In Battery-EV Registrations

Maharashtra recorded 1,00,750 battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations for the years 2022–2033, according to a state economic study. Registrations from the prior year, 2021–2022, have increased by 130%.

43,722 brand-new electric cars were registered in Maharashtra in 2021–2022. 7,544 electric cars were registered in 2020–2021 as well.

The Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy was announced by the Maharashtra government in 2021. It aims to encourage faster adoption of electric cars in the state, with a goal to achieve by 2025. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited is the state’s sole agency responsible for building vehicle charging infrastructure. 26 charging stations for electric vehicles are available in the state. 11 of these are located in Navi Mumbai, 7 are in Thane and 5 are in Pune. There is also 1 charging station in Nagpur, Kolhapur, and Solapur. Mahadiscom has also installed 36 additional charging stations throughout the state.

Maharashtra registered a total of 3,15,90,000 two-wheelers in 2022–2023. This is 2,99,46,070 entries more than in 2021–2022 (5.5% more). 8.3% of all state entries are in Mumbai. Mumbai saw a 6% increase in two-wheeler registrations from 2021–2022 to 2019. In the years 2022–2023, Mumbai saw an increase of 2,653,290 two-wheeler entries. In 2021–2022 there were 25,02,610 entries, in comparison.

Maharashtra registered 66,32,370 four-wheelers in 2022-22. This is 7.3% more than the registrations of 2021-22 (61,82,100). Mumbai has 21.7% of the share. According to the economic survey, Mumbai registered 14,42,380 four-wheeler vehicles in 2022-23. This is a 6.1% increase over 2021-22 registrations, which were at 13,58,840.
