At least 1,400 private charging points have been set up across the city, mostly by housing societies, in the last year since Delhi’s charging/swapping infrastructure action plan 2022-25 was rolled out, according to the Delhi electric vehicle (EV) cell.

According to officials from the Delhi transport department, with an increased push towards switching to EV in the last year, many individuals, housing societies, and cab fleet operators are deciding to put up EV charging infrastructure, despite the fact that the number of EVs in the area is still low. The action plan is part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020.

According to city officials, while there were few private charging stations, no residential society in the city established a charging point or station until last year. “We now have 1,400 private charging stations across residential societies, up from a negligible number last year.” With the growing number of EVs, several residence welfare associations (RWA) wish to set up charging infrastructure.

Under the scheme, one can apply online for a 6,000 subsidy and have a charging outlet built for 3,000. Each charging station costs around $9,000. People can contact their distribution company (discom) either online or offline to begin the installation process using the single window system.
Charger manufacturers have been appointed by the discoms. (EOMs). When you choose the EOM, they will contact you and install the charging point. The BSES, one of the city’s main discoms, has facilitated the construction of approximately 2,300 charging outlets at over 900 places. In fiscal year 22-23 alone, around 1,600 of these were installed. According to officials, the demand for private charging stations is increasing.
