Czech automaker Skoda Auto is preparing to enter India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, with plans to introduce its premium electric SUV, the Enyaq, later this year. The company is also exploring options to enter the mass-market EV segment, including potential partnerships with local firms to achieve economies of scale.

Martin Jahn, Skoda Auto’s Board Member for Sales and Marketing, emphasized the company’s commitment to participating in India’s EV growth. “We are exploring all the options… We are looking at everything; we want to bring a volume electric car to India,” Jahn stated. He noted that while no final decisions have been made, the company is considering various strategies to enter the mass-market EV segment.

In addition to introducing the Enyaq, Skoda plans to launch an updated version of the vehicle in 2025, featuring the company’s latest design language. Brand Director Petr Janeba highlighted the importance of aligning with India’s evolving EV policies and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) norms, set to be introduced in April 2027. He also mentioned that Skoda is prepared to invest in its Pune manufacturing facility to support local production of EVs, aiming for deeper localization to make their electric lineup more affordable for Indian consumers.

Skoda’s strategic initiatives align with India’s push for green mobility, supported by government incentives and increasing consumer interest in cleaner transportation alternatives.
