Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has shattered the electric vehicle (EV) lap record at Japan’s Tsukuba Circuit, a prominent motorsport venue, during the “Attack Tsukuba 2025” event held on February 15. The IONIQ 5 N, in its Time Attack (TA) Spec, was piloted by professional driver Nobuteru Taniguchi, who pushed the car to new limits, showcasing Hyundai’s commitment to EV performance.

The record-setting IONIQ 5 N TA Spec is a motorsport variant of Hyundai’s award-winning IONIQ 5 N, a vehicle that had already claimed a victory at the prestigious Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2024. With a focus on high-performance, this modified version retains most of the standard model’s features while offering significant power upgrades.

Equipped with a robust powertrain, the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec delivers 687 PS, an increase of 37 PS over the standard production model, enhancing its on-track performance. Hyundai’s engineers have optimized the car’s performance using advanced software tuning, making it an ideal contender for competitive events like Tsukuba.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Hyundai’s N division, which has been at the forefront of enhancing electric performance vehicles. The IONIQ 5 N’s success at Tsukuba Circuit demonstrates the company’s ongoing efforts to combine eco-friendly technology with high-performance driving experiences.

The record not only highlights Hyundai’s technical prowess but also reinforces the brand’s vision of leading the future of electric mobility. By pushing the boundaries of EV performance, Hyundai continues to set new benchmarks in the global automotive industry.
