Go-Ahead London is taking a major step toward sustainable transportation by adding Volvo BZL Electric buses to its fleet. These state-of-the-art buses, designed to meet Transport for London (TfL) standards, will maintain London’s iconic red livery while offering a greener, quieter alternative to traditional diesel buses.

The new buses, measuring 9.7 meters in length, are engineered for excellent maneuverability on London’s busy streets. Each vehicle is equipped with four traction batteries, providing a total energy storage capacity of 376kWh. This ensures reliable performance, supported by regenerative braking to harness energy while the bus is in motion.

Charging will be facilitated at Go-Ahead’s bus depots overnight, using CCS 2 cables and 150kW DC chargers, ensuring buses are ready for the next day’s routes. This efficient overnight charging process is key to maintaining consistent service and reducing environmental impact.

Matt Carney, CEO of Go-Ahead Bus, expressed excitement over the collaboration with Volvo, emphasizing the role these buses will play in enhancing the city’s commitment to sustainability. This partnership signals a shift towards a cleaner, more eco-friendly future for public transportation in London.

The introduction of the Volvo BZL Electric buses marks a significant milestone in Go-Ahead London’s sustainability efforts, contributing to London’s goal of reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality for residents and visitors alike.
