The India-EU Workshop on Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Technology, held in Pune, focused on fostering collaboration between India and the European Union for sustainable transportation. This workshop, organized under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), brought together policy makers, industry representatives, and technical experts to discuss harmonized EV charging solutions.
The event featured prominent participants from India, including officials from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and the Bureau of Indian Standards. European Commission representatives also joined the discussions virtually, sharing insights on the development of EV infrastructure and standards.
Key topics of discussion included the alignment of EV charging standards between India and the EU, the infrastructure requirements for sustainable mobility, and the importance of strategic cooperation to streamline processes and promote the adoption of electric vehicles. The workshop also addressed the testing and research capabilities in both regions, focusing on the facilities at ARAI and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
The workshop highlighted the critical need for harmonized standards in EV charging to ensure seamless interoperability. It also emphasized the role of pre-normative research and knowledge exchange in advancing EV technologies, which are essential for building a sustainable transport future.
In addition to the sessions, participants had the chance to visit the ARAI lab, offering a first-hand look at India’s state-of-the-art testing facilities for electric mobility. The event marked a significant milestone in the TTC Working Group’s agenda and set the stage for deeper cooperation between India and the EU in the field of green energy technologies.
