Volvo Buses has secured a significant order from Svealandstrafiken, a leading public transportation operator in Sweden. The order, valued at 106 electric buses, represents a strong step towards sustainable transportation in the Västmanland and Örebro regions. This new deal is part of Volvo’s ongoing efforts to expand its electric vehicle footprint in the public transport sector.
The initial order includes 60 Volvo 8900 Electric intercity buses, marking the debut of this new model. Additionally, Svealandstrafiken has ordered 13 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses for urban routes. The contract also includes an additional 33 Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses, further demonstrating the operator’s confidence in Volvo’s electric mobility solutions.
The Volvo 8900 Electric buses will be deployed on intercity routes, connecting cities across Västmanland and Örebro. These buses are expected to begin operations in early 2027. Meanwhile, the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated buses will service urban areas of Örebro, with deliveries planned for 2026.
Martin Spjern, Volvo Buses’ Market Manager in Sweden, highlighted the significance of the order. He noted that the new electric buses would not only offer quiet and efficient transportation within cities but also improve connectivity between urban centers, aligning with Svealandstrafiken’s commitment to sustainability.
