Mitsubishi Chemical Group has expressed a keen interest in integrating itself into India’s growing electric vehicle (EV) and semiconductor supply chains. During an interactive session organized by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Manabu Chikumoto, the company’s president and CEO, revealed that they are working on a project that aims to support these critical sectors in India. This move reflects Mitsubishi’s ambition to tap into the nation’s rapidly evolving green and tech industries.

The proposed project is set to play a crucial role in strengthening the links between the semiconductor and EV industries. Chikumoto emphasized that Mitsubishi, along with its partners, is exploring opportunities in India to expand their business footprint in these sectors. However, the exact location for the project remains undecided, pending further exploration of potential areas within the country.

Chikumoto acknowledged the Indian government’s strong push to develop the semiconductor industry and expressed hope for support from both central and state governments to make this project a reality. The company aims to establish a facility that will contribute to the ongoing efforts to boost the country’s technological capabilities, particularly in semiconductors and electric mobility.

Reflecting on his previous experience in India, Chikumoto recalled his tenure as the managing director of MCC PTA India (now MCPI), a key plant located in West Bengal. He highlighted the support from both the state and central governments during challenging times, which played a crucial role in the company’s eventual growth and success. This positive experience has encouraged Mitsubishi to further invest in India.

Looking forward, Mitsubishi’s new management plan prioritizes green technologies and carbon-neutral initiatives, aligning with India’s broader goals of sustainability and technological advancement. While the company does not plan to replace polymers, it is focused on finding ways to recycle plastics, contributing to a circular economy model.
