Plugzmart, an IIT-Madras-incubated startup, has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for its 240kW DC fast charger tailored for heavy electric vehicles. This accomplishment positions Plugzmart as the first Indian startup to receive such certification, highlighting its role in advancing indigenous EV charging solutions.
The charger boasts Plugzmart’s proprietary controller and Power Line Communication (PLC) modules, all developed and manufactured within India. By producing both hardware and software in-house, the company reduces reliance on imported components, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative and enhancing national self-sufficiency in EV technology.
Designed to efficiently charge high-end vehicles and heavy-duty trucks in approximately 20 minutes, the charger ensures high efficiency and reliability. It adheres to both Indian and international safety standards, featuring an intelligent power distribution system that optimizes energy usage and prevents grid overloads.
Vivek Samynathan, Founder and CEO of Plugzmart, emphasized that the company’s indigenous controller and PLC modules play a crucial role in reducing India’s import dependency in the EV sector. This development not only strengthens the domestic EV infrastructure but also positions Plugzmart as a leader in high-power charging solutions.
Plugzmart’s certification by ARAI represents a significant milestone in India’s transition to sustainable transportation, providing reliable and efficient charging solutions for heavy-duty electric vehicles and supporting the nation’s broader environmental goals.
