In a significant advancement for sustainable waste management, PreZero, a global recycling and environmental services leader, has placed an order for 35 battery-electric trucks from Volvo Trucks. This marks the largest electric vehicle (EV) acquisition in Sweden’s recycling sector to date. The majority of the fleet comprises Volvo FM Low Entry models, designed exclusively for electric propulsion, underscoring PreZero’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and value chain.

The new electric trucks will primarily operate in the Stockholm region, enhancing PreZero’s existing fleet that began incorporating electric vehicles in 2022. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader strategy to transition to zero-emission transportation solutions, further supported by investments in depot-based charging infrastructure to ensure efficient fleet operations.

Stefan Strand, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Sweden, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero puts in Volvo Trucks with this order. PreZero is truly leading the way by converting its transport to zero exhaust emissions.” This collaboration signifies a pivotal step towards achieving net-zero emissions in Sweden’s waste management sector.

PreZero’s decision to invest in electric trucks reflects a growing trend among companies to adopt sustainable practices in their logistics operations. By replacing traditional diesel-powered vehicles with electric alternatives, PreZero aims to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to Sweden’s ambitious environmental goals.

The deployment of these electric trucks is expected to not only decrease emissions but also enhance operational efficiency. Electric vehicles offer benefits such as lower maintenance costs, reduced noise pollution, and the potential for integration with renewable energy sources, further aligning with PreZero’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

This development sets a precedent for the recycling industry, demonstrating that large-scale electrification of waste management fleets is both feasible and beneficial. As other companies observe PreZero’s initiative, it may inspire similar investments in sustainable transportation solutions, accelerating the transition towards a greener future in the waste management sector.
