Toyota has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the bZ7 electric sedan, marking a bold move to challenge EV giants Tesla and BYD in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
The bZ7, part of Toyota’s “beyond Zero” (bZ) series, was revealed at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. It features a sleek design, spacious cabin, and advanced in-car technology aimed at appealing to China’s tech-savvy and eco-conscious consumers.
Developed in partnership with BYD Toyota EV Technology (BTET), the bZ7 sedan is built on the e-TNGA platform and is expected to deliver strong performance, enhanced range, and smart connectivity features. Specific battery specs and range figures have yet to be disclosed.
Toyota’s bZ series is central to its electrification strategy, and the bZ7 represents the brand’s commitment to building EVs tailored specifically for the Chinese market. The sedan is being positioned as a premium yet accessible offering in the mid-to-large EV segment.
The company has been accelerating its EV rollout amid growing competition in China, where homegrown players like BYD dominate sales. With the bZ7, Toyota aims to bridge the gap between Japanese engineering and Chinese market demands.
Toyota plans to begin sales of the bZ7 in China later this year. The automaker is also expanding its local partnerships and EV production capacity in China to support long-term growth in the region’s rapidly evolving electric mobility space.
