Mahindra & Mahindra is reportedly planning to extend the availability of its larger 79kWh battery pack to lower trims of its BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs. Currently, this high-capacity battery is exclusive to the top-spec Pack Three variants. The move aims to cater to a broader customer base seeking extended range without premium pricing.
Since the commencement of deliveries in March 2025, Mahindra has delivered over 6,300 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Notably, more than 75% of these deliveries were for the top-tier Pack Three variants, indicating a strong consumer preference for longer-range options.
The 79kWh battery offers impressive ranges: up to 682 km for the BE 6 and 656 km for the XEV 9e, as per ARAI certification. In contrast, the standard 59kWh battery provides 542 km for the XEV 9e and 535 km for the BE 6. Both battery options support DC fast charging, achieving 20% to 80% charge in approximately 20 minutes.
Mahindra’s delivery schedule is structured in phases. While Pack Three variants have been delivered since March, Pack Three Select variants are expected in June, followed by Pack Two in July, and the base Pack One and Pack One Above in August.
The pricing for the BE 6 ranges from ₹18.90 lakh to ₹26.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e is priced between ₹21.90 lakh and ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The potential inclusion of the 79kWh battery in lower trims could offer consumers enhanced range at more accessible price points.
By considering the expansion of the 79kWh battery to lower trims, Mahindra aims to address the growing demand for long-range electric vehicles in India. This strategy could position the BE 6 and XEV 9e as more competitive options in the evolving EV market.
