India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape is poised for a significant transformation as four new electric SUVs, each boasting a driving range exceeding 500 kilometers, are slated for launch in 2025. These models, developed by leading automakers Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Motors, aim to address range anxiety and cater to the growing demand for long-range electric mobility in the country.
Mahindra is set to introduce the XEV 7e, an electric SUV inspired by the XUV700, built on the INGLO skateboard platform. Leaked images suggest a design influenced by the XUV.e8 concept, with expectations of battery configurations similar to those in the XEV 9e and BE 6, offering a range of over 500 km on a full charge.
Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the EV segment will be marked by the launch of the eVX, a midsize SUV built on the dedicated Heartect e platform. Scheduled for release around September 2025, the eVX will be available with two battery pack options, with the larger variant providing a claimed range exceeding 500 kilometers per charge.
Tata Motors is preparing to unveil the Harrier EV on June 3, 2025. This electric SUV is expected to feature a dual-motor configuration with power units mounted on both axles, supporting an all-wheel-drive layout. The Harrier EV is anticipated to deliver a driving range of over 500 kilometers on a single charge, with a peak torque close to 500 Nm, indicating robust on-road performance.
Another significant addition from Tata is the Sierra EV, showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Set to arrive in showrooms before the end of the financial year, the Sierra EV will be available in both petrol/diesel and electric formats. The electric version is expected to offer a range exceeding 500 kilometers, maintaining design elements reminiscent of the classic Sierra model.
These upcoming electric SUVs represent a concerted effort by Indian automakers to enhance the EV ecosystem, offering consumers vehicles that combine extended range with modern features. As the Indian government continues to promote electric mobility, these models are poised to play a pivotal role in accelerating EV adoption across the country.
