Maruti Suzuki India Limited has initiated a comprehensive High Voltage Training Program aimed at equipping a skilled workforce to handle electric and hybrid vehicles. This initiative, part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, is being implemented across 130 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 24 states and 4 Union Territories. With an investment of approximately ₹3.9 crore, the program targets the training of over 4,100 second-year ITI students annually.
The training curriculum encompasses the fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), safety protocols for high-voltage systems, utilization of specialized tools, and system maintenance practices. By focusing on these areas, the program aims to prepare future automotive technicians to safely and efficiently manage high-voltage electric systems, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the EV sector.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the company’s vision: “We want to maximize adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in the country. One major hurdle in EV adoption is customer confidence in after-sales service. Maruti Suzuki is addressing this by equipping more than 1,500 workshops in 1,000 cities to support BEVs. At the core of this service infrastructure are trained technicians.”
The program also includes ‘train-the-trainer’ sessions for ITI faculty, ensuring consistent and high-quality instruction. Additionally, participating institutes are provided with specialized tools and equipment to facilitate practical, industry-relevant learning.
This strategic initiative aligns with India’s carbon net-zero goals and the government’s vision for sustainable mobility. By developing a robust network of trained technicians, Maruti Suzuki aims to enhance after-sales service confidence among customers, thereby accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across the country.
The first batch of trained students is expected to graduate by September 2025, ready to contribute to the evolving automotive industry. These technicians will not only support Maruti Suzuki’s service network but also bolster the broader automotive ecosystem, promoting the growth of electric and hybrid vehicles in India.
