Ola Electric has announced a postponement in the launch and delivery of several anticipated electric vehicle models, including the Gig and Gig+ scooters, the S1 Z, and its upcoming electric three-wheelers. The decision aligns with the company’s strategic focus on its Roadster motorcycle platform and efforts to enhance operational efficiency across its network.
Initially unveiled in November 2024, the Gig series was Ola’s first venture into the B2B electric scooter segment, priced between ₹39,999 and ₹49,999. The S1 Z, positioned as an affordable option for urban commuters, was priced at ₹59,999. Both models were slated for delivery in April 2025 but have now been deferred indefinitely.
Ola Electric’s electric three-wheeler platform, intended for both passenger and cargo use, was previously projected for launch in 2026. While specific timelines remain unchanged, the company has indicated that these rollouts will follow the prioritized launch of other products.
The company has also faced delays with its Roadster motorcycle, which began deliveries on May 21, 2025, after initial plans for a March rollout. The Roadster lineup, including models like the Roadster X and Arrowhead, is now central to Ola’s product strategy.
Ola Electric has experienced a decline in market share, dropping to approximately 20% in May 2025 from over 49% a year earlier, amid intensified competition from established players like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor. In response, the company has expanded its retail footprint to around 4,000 stores and improved service turnaround times to 1.1 days.
To enhance financial sustainability, Ola launched Project Lakshya in November 2024, aiming to reduce operating costs in its auto segment to ₹110 crore. As of April 2025, operating costs had decreased to ₹121 crore, with the target expected to be met by June. The company emphasizes increasing productivity and sales per store as key objectives for the upcoming quarters.
