Hyundai has teased its next big move in the EV space with a new electric vehicle under wraps—possibly the much-anticipated Ioniq 2. Slated to be an affordable entry-level EV, this model aims to rival the likes of Volkswagen’s ID.2 and Citroën ë-C3, particularly in the compact hatchback segment.

The teaser image shows a small, camouflaged electric car undergoing cold-weather testing, sparking speculation across the industry. While Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed the model name, multiple sources suggest that this could be the Ioniq 2, built to appeal to urban buyers seeking affordable electric mobility.

Hyundai has been vocal about its plans to introduce a sub-€25,000 EV tailored for Europe. The Ioniq 2, if officially launched under this price bracket, could be a game changer for Hyundai’s presence in the compact EV segment. The vehicle is expected to sit below the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in the company’s growing EV lineup.

Industry experts believe that the car will be based on a shortened version of the E-GMP platform or a new cost-optimized EV architecture to keep prices competitive. Hyundai’s collaboration with its affiliate Kia on a common small EV platform further strengthens this speculation.

Affordability aside, Hyundai is expected to include essential features that urban drivers value—compact design, decent range, and smart connectivity. This move supports Hyundai’s broader strategy to expand EV adoption by offering models across different price points and use cases.

As the global race to dominate the budget EV segment intensifies, Hyundai’s upcoming model could play a pivotal role. With growing competition and consumer interest, the Ioniq 2—or whatever name it carries—may redefine what an entry-level electric vehicle can offer in terms of value, design, and sustainability.
