In a major push towards sustainable transportation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has announced the successful installation of over 1,270 public electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the city. The move reflects the emirate’s accelerating shift toward green mobility and its commitment to carbon neutrality.
The initiative is part of DEWA’s EV Green Charger programme, launched in 2014 to encourage EV adoption in the UAE. Since then, the charging infrastructure has grown steadily to meet rising demand, with over 40,600 EVs currently registered in Dubai.
To support this rapid growth, DEWA has also implemented a licensing framework allowing private sector players to operate and expand charging infrastructure under regulatory oversight. This aims to ensure quality, safety, and accessibility of charging services throughout the city.
The latest developments include a partnership with Parkin, Dubai’s parking management company, to install EV chargers at key public and private parking areas. Chargers now available include ultra-fast, fast, and wall-box types, offering flexibility for all types of EV users.
Additionally, EV drivers can locate charging stations through DEWA’s smart app, website, and more than 14 integrated digital platforms. The launch of the new Dubai EV Community Hub also serves as an online resource for EV owners, offering real-time updates and service information.
This infrastructure expansion aligns with the UAE’s broader vision for net-zero emissions by 2050 and Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050. With its growing network, Dubai is positioning itself as a global leader in smart, sustainable urban mobility.
