NIO to Launch Firefly EV in Singapore in Early 2026

Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO has officially confirmed its entry into the Singapore market, announcing plans to introduce its Firefly EV hatchback in early 2026. This launch will feature the company’s first-ever right-hand-drive model, underscoring its evolving global expansion strategy.

To facilitate entry into the city-state, NIO has joined forces with Wearnes Automotive, a distinguished luxury automotive distributor in the Asia-Pacific region. The partnership will oversee the sales and service operations of the Firefly in Singapore, aiming to deliver a premium yet accessible EV experience for urban drivers.

The compact and intelligent Firefly was initially launched in China in late 2024 and is designed to appeal to younger, city-oriented buyers. Its arrival in Singapore will coincide with the Government’s push for increased EV uptake, supported by policy backing and infrastructure growth.

Singapore marks NIO’s first market in Southeast Asia. It joins Costa Rica—the brand’s gateway into the Americas—and Uzbekistan, its first venture into Central Asia, as part of a broader push across three new regions.

In Singapore, the Firefly will also benefit from NIO’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, which allows consumers to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery, reducing upfront costs and offering flexible ownership options.

This move marks a pivotal step in NIO’s multi-brand strategy—leveraging the Firefly within its premium small-EV sub-brand to drive global growth, particularly in markets where right-hand-drive models are essential.
