According to data from the Vahan portal, sales of electric scooters for legacy OEMs have begun to grow more quickly with the start of the year 2023. For example, the recently launched Vida by Hero MotoCorp electric mobility registered a 90.45% growth month-over-month. Compared to the 157 electric scooters it had sold in January 2023, the OEM was able to register 299 Vida units with end users in February 2023.
Notably, the OEM has only recently established its fast-charging network and is only selling Vida scooters in a select few cities, including Jaipur and Bangalore. 108.47% MoM growth was also reported by Chetak Technology by Bajaj, which sold 1,305 electric scooters in February 2023. Only 626 units were sold by the OEM in January 2023.
TVS Motor, another legacy OEM, posted 20.27% MoM growth by retailing 12,568 Qube electric scooters in February 2023. Interestingly, TVS Motor was the second-most-selling electric scooter OEM in India during February and January 2023.
While Ola Electric has managed to maintain its top position in the sales of electric scooters, its growth has slowed down recently, falling from 18,313 units in January 2023 to 17,616 units in February 2023.
